About

Hey readers,

Welcome to my site!

My name is Ryan and I’m glad that you’re here.

I started this site because I love to write, especially fantasy and science fiction, with my goal to be published in a professional market. A huge aspect of accomplishing that is becoming a part of the community, to explore, challenge each other, and get inspired, and so here I am — and I hope you’ll say hello!

I’ll be writing posts about what I’m working on, any stories that have caught my attention, weird themes that cross my mind, the stuff that’s inspired or influenced me lately, and probably a cat video or two, because, hey…. this is the internet, and I miss my kitty.

A little about me:

I live in the Boston area and have for most of my life. Some people call it the Hub of the Universe, but that could only be true if the universe was comprised solely of biotech researchers, and since I myself am not a biotech researcher, I can definitively state that the universe, at the very least, has more than one Hub.

Still, it’s a pretty great place to live, especially for a kid who realizes while he’s growing up that he’s a little bit different, and then, by the time he’s grown up, is told by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that there’s nothing wrong with that — before any other state in the country.

I work in politics, as a political and community organizer. I always get asked questions about my field — people generally seem fascinated by it — and I’m not going to lie, I love the fact that I get to work for causes and people I really care about. It’s a cool field, not an easy one, but I work hard and get to do something I love. There’s few things better than that.

Now, to the really important thing. This is my dog. Her name is Snickers. She is the love of my life.

A little bit about my writing:

A lot of my writing focuses on building worlds. If I can write a world that feels real and yet is utterly different from what we experience day to day in some way, then usually the characters come alive to me, and the plot presents itself.

I’ve been working on a YA/Middle Grade fantasy adventure novel off and on for about the past couple years, and am getting ready to tackle its fifth draft. It’s been a ton of work — I’ve painstakingly cut about 25,000 words and think it’s really coming along. I’m not yet at the point where I’m ready to send it out to agents or publishers, but I hope to within a year.

I also started reading and writing a ton of short stories since the new year, quickly growing to love that format, averaging about 1-2 new short stories a month. My short stories often touch on a wide range of issues facing society, and often a diverse set of characters, so I hope to write a little something for everyone. If the story about the computer programmer who tries to create a digital copy of a person long dead isn’t your cup of tea, I hope you’ll enjoy the one with the post-apocalyptic killer robot instead.

Wish me a little luck, and hopefully you’ll get to read something of mine soon.

And don’t forget to say hi!
